The KCALA Community Service project efforts during the 2017 were directed to the Cristo Rey High School and Connections to Success.

In early August several chapter members donated their time to help with the Freshmen Orientation Summer Learning Institute at Cristo Rey High School. Cristo Rey has a long history of students working in various corporations in Kansas City through their work study program.

During the Summer Training Institute, Cristo Rey students receive training in three critical areas:

  • Personal development

  • Business etiquette

  • Entry-level office skills

Over two weeks, Cristo Rey school staff, volunteers, and job supervisors prepared all incoming students for success in their Corporate Work Study Program assignments.

Our next Community Service project was Connections to Success. Connections provides a comprehensive network of services and support to help people in poverty become economically self-sufficient. Their model, with lifelong mentoring at its core, delivers evidence-based results and impacts all areas of a person’s life. With that mission in mind, the KCALA members held a clothing drive during the holiday season in 2017, gathering gently used business attire for the Connections Boutique.
