To Stacie and KCALA Volunteers: I just wanted to personally thank you and your incredible group of volunteers. You definitely shortened our list. Your group is hard working and easy to facilitate. It was a pleasure. Such projects are a labor of love. Our residents and staff came in on Monday and welcomed the improvements as a strong message of love and support. It is this kind of encouragement that keeps us going and puts a smile on everyone's face. We have had several groups, small and large, share their time and talents with us. Stacie - please pass on our Thank You. I work with stocking our apartments and was overwhelmed with our early Christmas present. It was so nice to see the volume of new kitchen utensils, towels, dishes, glasses and pots and pans. WOW! Our residents don't often get new and your supply will go a long way. Your group selected the items we most needed. I can assure you that you will make many families feel wanted in the coming months. Our families have been truly blessed. WHAT'S IN A NUMBER? Re-Cap of KCALA's Community Challenge Project 2009
150. 150 volunteer hours were spent working with Community LINC, KCALA's partner for Community Challenge Week. Volunteer's worked as early childcare and children's life skill leaders assisting babies and toddlers, as well as school age children with their homework while their parents attended life skill and budgeting classes. 25. 25 Volunteers completed 20 property maintenance projects. Completed projects included: the removal of 800 bricks off an apartment building roof, scraped and painted apartment building landings, replaced missing/broken fence boards, framed and installed front sidewalk, repainted yellow posts, reset chain link fence poles in concrete, painted gas pipes, replaced drywall, tested vacuums and replaced belts/bags. Are you impressed yet? There's more... 40. 40 KCALA members and vendor partners provided donations that assisted in provided Community LINC with much needed supplies for new residents as well as their ongoing children's programs. 1000. $1000 of contributions went to purchase the following donations for Community LINC: 8 sets of towels, 80 fruit juice boxes, 6 containers of sanitizing wipes, 119 cheese and cracker packets, 21 bags of popcorn, 50 fruit snack packets, 2 boxes of cookies, 1 trash can, 15 mixing spoons, 5 sets of 45 piece place settings, (2) 24 piece kitchen tool and gadget sets, 7 sheet sets, (2) 21 piece kitchen sets, (1) 15 piece Tub of Tools, (3) 7 piece non-stick aluminum cookware sets, (2) 11 piece non-stick aluminum cookware sets, (5) 12 pieces cooler glasses, (5) 16 piece dinnerware sets, (5) 30 piece food storage sets.....all delivered to Community LINC for their immediate use. 5. 5 apartments will be outfitted with basic essentials thanks to the generosity of KCALA members and vendor sponsors. 1,000,000. 1,000,000 thank you's to all the members and vendor sponsors that donated their time and money to benefit Community LINC. Community LINC was impressed with the number of projects that we were able to complete and overwhelmed by our generosity. I want to acknowledge Pam Walker (Office Essentials) and her husband Bill, as well as the Russell Stover hockey team for spending their entire Saturday assisting Community LINC with projects that seemed impossible to accomplish. The entire Saturday crew rolled their sleeves up and really got to work! The numbers don't lie. This year's CCW was a huge SUCCESS!

Message from Hope House - - Community Challenge 2008 I want to thank you and your staff for the wonderful work project that you did on October 11, 2008. The new shelving is wonderful and will provide my staff a more efficient use of space and an orderly displace of products that we have available to our clients during the upcoming holiday season. The dedication of you and your staff was evident when I arrived Saturday morning,the group was happily working and I was in awe when I walked into the basement and saw the progress made. I was in even more awe when I arrived Monday morning and went to look at the completed project. It was wonderful to see the shelves stocked and the orderly flow that had been set up for shopping. The president of Hope House, Mary Anne Metheny, had been in the basement last week to look at the project and when she and I spoke she indicated how impressed she was with the way everything looked and wanted me to ensure that I passed on her thanks for the work that had been done. I would also like to thank all of the donors who have made this project possible, in the current economy it is getting more difficult to keep things running and operations dollars are being stretched. This wonderful donation of funds to purchase the shelving for this project is without a doubt a gift of love. Please pass on my deepest gratitude to all who have donated their time, talents and dollars to make this project possible. I sincerely hope that we will have another opportunity to work together again, please accept my thanks and appreciation for all you have done. Sincerely, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hope House Project A Big Success! Beautiful weather and warm temperatures added to make our community service project a perfect experience! With donations from 20 law firms and five members who paid for new shelving, along with the manpower of our members and vendors, we were able to transform the Hope House basement into a functional gift storage area. The before and after pictures tell it all!! A BIG thank you goes out to those who made this possible by contributing money and time.

We will only deliver the prepared food, not serve it. To find out what items are needed or how to donate, please contact Janet Gooch, 816-983-8501. Our last lunch will be February 21. More information closer to date of each. Shampoo Collection: THIS WILL COST YOU NOTHING!! Don’t know what to do with all those bottles of unused complimentary hotel shampoo, body wash, lotion? We will collect them at each Chapter meeting and deliver them to their facility. Get the word out to your law firm personnel and let’s shower Hope House with suds!
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Past Presidents Cook!
In January 2008, our Past Presidents gathered to prepare a meal for the Ronald McDonald House, for families of children who are receiving treatment from community hospitals. This volunteer event has become a tradition for KCALA Past Presidents, who remain dedicated to our community and our organization.

I just opened a lovely envelope with $5,275 and I hardly know what to say. This is amazing – thank you so much!!
These donations will make our program much stronger. We appreciate the support, and will begin processing all of the thank you letters right away. We are also hopeful that ALA and its members will continue to think of SOMO as they choose their volunteer opportunities moving forward. If we can provide any information to that extent, let me know.
Thanks again for all the time and hard work you put into this effort. Both of you deserve a medal for all you’ve done to make this possible!
